The craziest thing happened tonight. Me and 1f were riding home from yoga (he goes to yoga with me now) and at division and Rockwell we saw an old man with a cane on the ground in the crosswalk, trying to yell as a huge conversion van blasting loud music knocked him over and started to back up over him, running over his cane and almost his body. We started screaming and leapt off our bikes and ram screaming at the van, as a few other people on the street did the same. The old guy in the street had his foot up on his bumper, trying to keep it from crushing him. We called 911 and they took him to the hospital. The dude in the van was my age, sans insurance, and left before the police got there. 1f got his license plate, though. The guy seemed to be semi-okay, just very old and scraped up, and it was really cool that a ton of people from the neighborhood came out and stayed with us while we waited for the paramedics. But man. Don’t listed to loud music while driving, and don’t make stupid parking decisions, especially when you’re parking in order to hit the liquor store. That guy would have been crushed to death if 10 other people walking by hadn’t been there.
